Tonight's dinner

Since the start of the summer, I've really gotten into food websites like Tastespotting and Yumsugar and have started trying new recipes. I actually wanted to start blogging about cooking a while ago, but I guess I've just been too lazy to take photos while I've been making these new dishes but hopefully this will be the start of new posts to come about my recent forays into cooking. Tonight's dish was Black Pepper Tagliatelle--this recipe intrigued me not only because it sounded tasty but also because of the photo. I've bought lots of Asian ingredients but the one that threw me for a loop was kecap manis--I'd never heard of it before and wasn't sure where I'd be able to find it but, fortunately, I had a haircut appointment near Kalyustan's a few weeks ago and spotted it there.

The recipe requires a lot of chopping and I'm not super keen on chopping lots of stuff unless a dish comes out really well.

Sauteeing I don't mind

The dish came out ok in my opinion--I just started cooking beef more regularly again recently so I haven't perfected the art of cooking beef yet (I ended up overcooking) but, that aside, it wasn't quite as saucy as I had hoped--when I glanced at all the ingredients in the recipe I guess I was expecting a lucious thick sauce and this recipe just produced a tiny bit of sauce which partly defeats the purpose of making a pasta dish, particularly one involving tagliatelle or fettucine, which I opted to use instead. Also, if you do opt to make this dish, I recommend using less peppercorns--as Adam remarked, it helped to clear his sinuses!

Anyhow, here's the final dish.
