Sapori D'Ischia
After reading a slew of good reviews about Sapori D'Ischia, Adam and I decided to go there for dinner tonight. Sapori is actually an Italian food warehouse/retail shop by day and a charming restaurant at night located in an unlikely location (an industrial part of Woodside). On Wednesdays, they have a prix fixe menu in which you can order an appetizer, entree, and dessert off their menu for $25 which is a pretty good deal considering most of their appetizers hover just under $10 and most of their entrees range from $18 to $25. I was going to take advantage of the prix fixe menu, but then was lured by the promise of good risotto (it's white truffle season). Adam and I shared the buddino di carciofi, a baked puree of artichoke which I loved and reminded me of the appetizers I had in France. The risotto was good but the rice they used was quite different from the risotto rice generally eat (and like) which detracted from my enjoyment of the dish. Unfortunately, Adam's pappardelle dish was a major disappointment. I was also disappointed by their selection of desserts and the dessert we shared (hazelnut gelato) but their coffee was good. A mixed experience but I would like to go back and try their signature dish.

There's an empty gap where my tooth once stood
Unfortunately, my pain issues did not end the weekend after I got my tooth removed and in fact, got worse. Suddenly, Advil wasn't doing the trick anymore and I was waking up in the middle of the night in pain. I took a detour from my usual commute the following Tuesday to go to back to my oral surgeon's office and discovered I had dry socket. I was relieved that there was a reasonable explanation for the pain but the taste of the medicated gauze the doctor placed in my tooth area took some getting used to.
Fortunately, the pain and discomfort is only occasional now but the need to eat soft foods, unfortunately, hasn't gone away and this part I find pretty annoying. I'm a pretty picky eater to begin with and having to confine my diet to mostly soft foods has actually been pretty labor intensive. I have to buy bananas at least twice a week and today I schlepped all the way to Trader Joe's only to discover they ran of the muffins I've been munching on for breakfast lately. I can't cook any of my weekend dinner standards (which are all quick and easy) and I've been eating (and cooking) a lot of Indian food (thank god for lentils). I really hope my tooth area heals soon.

Post-op and Next Fest
While I was relieved that the wisdom tooth extraction had been quick and painless (thanks to local anesthesia) and I've been relatively lucky as far as the post-procedure pain goes, there have been periods of discomfort and pain throughout the weekend. This is also the closest to a vegetarian diet I've ever come since college. Yesterday, lured by the hope that it would be similar to the World Expo we went to last year, Adam and I went to NextFest. I enjoyed it but was disappointed by the Entertainment Robots panel--I was hoping for robots that danced or played instruments but instead there was only a waltzing robot followed by two relatively boring presentations. Here's a photo of one of the robots I saw, a female robot wearing traditonal Japanese garb that did a brief dance.
