Red Hook
It's never fun waking up because of food poisoning, especially if the meal you ate last night was expensive and you have plans to go on a food-related excursion a few hours after you wake up but Adam and I still headed out to Red Hook Ballfields because I couldn't resist the prospect of sampling different Latin American foods. We tried to get there around noon to avoid the crowds but, despite a small-ish line, the first stand I went to required a bit of a wait. They only had two choices of tacos--goat stew and steak and I can't bring myself to eat goat so I ordered the steak. The steak taco was ok, I probably could have done better at some of the other stands but I do have to admit the goat stew taco looked good, and the woman standing behind me in the second line I stood on confirmed the tastiness of this taco. The second line I stood on was for a stand which seemed to be the most popular one there. The line was also a very slow moving line--the kind that you wonder if you'll ever get to the end to but I stayed and was rewarded with good though not necessarily worth a trip all the way to Red Hook tacos. These were consumed with a drink that can only be described as pure cinnamon that Adam had picked up. We then walked off some of the tacos by heading over to Fairway. The Fairway in Red Hook is definitely a worthwhile destination but, without a car and facing a walk up six flights of stairs, definitely requires an exercise in restraint. Housed in a former warehouse, it's noticeably larger than the one on the Upper West Side, and it's a food lover's paradise. We decided to catch the B61 bus back home and it turned out to be the longest bus ride ever. We must've gone through every neighborhood on or near the waterfront in mid and northern Brooklyn.

The long awaited for tacos

Interesting looking structure by the future IKEA in Red Hook
