San Francisco

Adam and I just returned from a long anticipated trip to San Francisco. I lived in San Francisco nearly ten years ago when I went to Berkeley for a semester and had been pining to return for a long time. Fortunately, Adam had a work conference planned in San Francisco so we finally had an opportunity to go this past week. The week went by so fast--we flew in on Thursday and pretty much crammed in as much as we could between then and Wednesday when we flew back. Thursday, we went to Japantown where we indulged in one of Adam's beloved kaiten sushi (conveyer belt sushi) at a place that substituted boats for a conveyer belt. I would say we ate our fair share of sushi:

Japantown was fun, I wish we had one in NY. Adam bought a ton of stuff at one of those dollar-type Japanese stores. Friday we went on a tour of some wineries in Napa Valley. I was a bit apprehensive about the people we would be sharing the limo (I tried not to book a limo tour but the majority of winery tours are via limo) with but we really lucked out. The two couples and one non-coupled person we shared the limo with turned out to be really cool and we even went out for dinner the following day. The landscape of Napa Valley was pretty impressive.

Unfortunately, the ferry going to Vallejo where we were meeting our limo had mechanical problems but we still got to enjoy the view of Bay Bridge from the Ferry Building.

I love this shot of the plaza across the street from the Ferry Building that I took on our way back.

On Saturday, we got up early and headed over to the Presidio, a former army base that is now a national park which has fantastic views of the bay. We had parts of the northern beach which leads up to the Golden Gate Bridge practically all to ourselves at times which was nice. Here's a photo of Adam by the famed bridge.

Sunday, we hit Golden Gate Park, the San Francisco version of Central Park (both parks were designed by Frederick Law Olmsted).

Adam's conference was Monday to Wednesday so I spent most of that time checking out the different neighborhoods within San Francisco and returning to the Presidio to check out the Coastal Trail. I love the Presidio--it's definitely one of my favorite parks within the U.S.

We had a great time in San Francisco--how can you beat good food, wine, and great scenery?
