Sapori D'Ischia
After reading a slew of good reviews about Sapori D'Ischia, Adam and I decided to go there for dinner tonight. Sapori is actually an Italian food warehouse/retail shop by day and a charming restaurant at night located in an unlikely location (an industrial part of Woodside). On Wednesdays, they have a prix fixe menu in which you can order an appetizer, entree, and dessert off their menu for $25 which is a pretty good deal considering most of their appetizers hover just under $10 and most of their entrees range from $18 to $25. I was going to take advantage of the prix fixe menu, but then was lured by the promise of good risotto (it's white truffle season). Adam and I shared the buddino di carciofi, a baked puree of artichoke which I loved and reminded me of the appetizers I had in France. The risotto was good but the rice they used was quite different from the risotto rice generally eat (and like) which detracted from my enjoyment of the dish. Unfortunately, Adam's pappardelle dish was a major disappointment. I was also disappointed by their selection of desserts and the dessert we shared (hazelnut gelato) but their coffee was good. A mixed experience but I would like to go back and try their signature dish.
