New toothbrush

So I've had to see a periodontist recently because my gum pockets are lower than they should be (I generally don't think about my age much, but hearing about your gums receding can make you feel old quick). I've gone in twice to get this special deep cleaning which was not too pleasant but I'm sure minor compared to this surgery my periodontist mentioned I would need if she didn't see any improvement. I don't know what this procedure is called--all I know is that it involves having to pull your gums up and having to have stitches in between your gums and only being able to eat soft things for a long time and that's all I need to know to want to do what I can to avoid it.

I've had an Oral B electric toothbrush for over a year but my periodontist said that they're not much better than a regular toothbrush and recommended that I get a Sonicare toothbrush instead. I actually waited a few months before I got one because they're expensive but decided it would be a worthwhile investment if it meant avoiding the dreaded surgery. I finally tried the toothbrush this week and it's crazy--I don't think I've ever watched a Star Wars movie in its entirety and, yet, the only analogy I can draw is it's like a light sabor for your mouth. It feels other-worldly, I wouldn't say in a good way. Even the way the toothbrush vibrates in your hand feels strange. I just hope it works..
