Bummed

Ever since I saw my first Shiba Inu, I knew that it was the dog for me. I find the breed's resemblance to a fox very appealing (I really like foxes). When we went to Japan, this desire was only reinforced as I saw Shiba Inus being walked everywhere and the dog seemed to fit perfectly with its native country. I'd always wanted to pet one but was always to shy to ask an owner of this type of dog if I could pet it but I finally got my wish when we went to this pet store that specializes in dogs. I've never seen so many puppies in my life and just about everyone seemed cute but once I saw they had Shiba Inus, I gazed at them longingly. Leaving the pet store, images of the dog floated in my head and Adam agreed that it was a very beautiful dog. Then I read the warning below and my long held dreams of getting one once we move to California and walking it in the temperate climes of San Francisco were dashed.

Shibas shed a LOT. You'll find hair and fur all over your clothing, upholstery, carpeting, under your furniture, on your countertops -- even in your food. Frequent vacuuming will become a way of life. Make sure you're REALLY up for this.

One of the reasons why I decided against getting a cat was this very reason. I've never owned a dog or a cat (or been a very good housekeeper) and the prospect of having to clean up lots of fur is one I find very unappealing. Boo.
