Diamonds and Why I Like New York Noise

So De Beers, one of the largest producer of diamonds, recently opened a store in Manhattan. There were protests during their opening but when I walked past there today, I noticed the lack of protestors. I'm tempted to protest, especially having read the book Blood Diamonds. I highly recommend it--it's an eye opener. Apparently, Kayne West knows about conflict diamonds as well--his new release is called Diamonds (from Sierra Leone).

Even though Adam's a rudie, I never had the privilege of being introduced to Matisyahu until I saw one of his music videos tonight on New York Noise. He's a Hasidic Jew who's a reggae musician--a very cool combination. But besides playing neat music videos, New York Noise does cool things like interviewing bands at my favorite cupcake place, Sugar Sweet Sunshine and having children review indie music videos like in tonight's episode. One of the kid's comments on a Cat Power video, "Owls sing better than her and owls don't even sing!"
