So I was talking to my mom on the phone recently and she mentioned that her best friend would be coming to our wedding and started on a trajectory about her best friend. She mentioned that her best friend was a woman who's husband was mentally abusive but who she was too scared to leave. That they barely speak to one another because every time they speak they get into a fight and the state of their marriage has been like this for ten years. And despite all this she still cooks for him every day even though he's mentally abusive, has a drinking problem, and they live together in the same house in silence. This is what an old-school Asian woman will put up with. It's pretty sad and scary.
